A smile, a real one.

Happiness is to each their own. A family to the Christian girlfriend is happiness, as forgiveness is to the man who lost his unforgivable father.

Happiness, if you care to know, is a stretch. I can tell you what I tell most people, that (holding back an awful grin) I dream of being a Forest Ranger in Sequoia. We could just leave it at that. But a smile, a real one, is hard sought. I’ve had some moments, as I assume you have had to, where a smile finds me.

Look up towards a blue sky, with clouds as warm company, and let a smile find you as it did me. The girlfriend who prays and thanks God for the child inside of her, smiles. The man who throws his hated father’s ashes into the oncoming waves, with each throw forgiveness in his heart, smiles.

Drink a great cup of coffee. Be first in a line that’s just starting to get long. Look up at the Earth from under water. Let a smile, a real one, find you.
